Just some notes used to reply to a YouTube commenter
Prayer; does it work or just feel good?
Jesus is clear that we cannot believe in Him on our own. The Father has to reveal The Son to us, if we are to know Him at all and especially if we are to know the Truth about who He is as The Son of God and God Himself ie, The Second Person of The Holy Trinity.
Every time I read these passages, I am reminded of those I know and love who do not believe, and all of those who are in power that do not believe in Jesus. I also think these passages reveal a lot more than just believing that Jesus exists in heaven or existed as a man once 2,000 years ago.
These passages at that same time give me hope and fear. I am hopefully because I must Trust that our Heavenly Father will reveal His Son to those who are worthy of such a gift, but fear because I know that The Father will not draw everyone to His Son.
This particular YouTube commenter said this to me...
@bestlifenow777 yea i'll just quote David McAfee "Prayer doesn’t work. Perhaps it makes the believer feel better (in the same way that meditation or deep thought would), but prayer doesn’t actually affect the external world. Not only is it ineffective, but it is also a very narcissistic practice… why would a 'God' change its 'Divine Plan' to accommodate someone's wishes?" So not only does God not answer prayers, it's foolish to think that any God would when doing so would go against his plan that believers are always so quick to appeal to whenever something terrible happens. And you use prayer to further your delusion.
Some of my response...
That is actually a good question. Why would a God change its Divine Plan to accommodate someone's wishes? I hear what you are saying. But this assumes that everything is predestined by God's Will and therefore cannot be changed. Predestination is another topic but we have to understand that God creator of everything including time and space, EXISTS OUTSIDE OF TIME AND SPACE. Therefore He can and does change the outcome of things here on earth. God being Lord over time and space can do this, in fact nothing is impossible for such a Divine Being who has always existed, never created and not subject to time. "For nothing will be impossible for God" (Luke 1:37)
But does He do this when we ask Him? I believe He does, in fact my prayers always get answers and I know so many people and heard their testimony of God in fact answering their prayer. Often immediately, but most of the time over time, and not always in the way we expect Him to. Another important point is to ask in faith if we really want Him to help us. We read about Jesus "And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief." (Matthew 13:58)
With God who created all things, nothing is impossible. Prayer is something that we do, and yes it does make us feel better, but it is much more than that, it is communicating with God who created us and who loves us. Not to mention He has the power to change things in our life. I know for myself God has answered my prayers. Often not in the way I would expect. But God who lives outside of time and space can and does intercede for us when we ask Him in faith. I know I am not alone in this, and there are people out there with greater testimonies than myself. I have learned to go to Him with all of my anxieties, and just Trust that He has a plan and is writing a beautiful story with my life. I believe God is doing something great in your life right now. He has already brought you to this conversation. He is listening and we can go to Him even if to say "God I don't know if you are there or not, but I ask that you reveal yourself to me" Then be open to Him working in your life, and keep your heart open for His answer.
Thank you for taking a look at this. I feel there is some important information here that we all could use. What do you think?
Let us pray for this person called Daniel McPherson that God will reveal His Son to them and to all who are struggling to believe. Oh my Jesus forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy Mercy. Amen
Eternal Father, I offer You the most Precious Blood of Your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen
